Preface With the Mayor Giacomo Licari The commissioner for Education and Culture Prof.ssa Raffaella D'Alberti Introduction The prize for poetry dedicated to the memory of Pasquale Benigno, local dialect poet, is the flagship of the different events that the Association Pro Loco di Petrosino try to organize. Not everyone can get together in a project shared with the community, not because of substantial revenue. The prize, now at its third edition, is for us that we organize a source of pride and do a part of us. As the farmer casts seed in fertile ground that will give its lush fruit, so we go looking for those seeds that represent our identity, are grains of memories, joys and sacrifices, tired and happy faces of children that grow with our values. Are our words, like pictures imprinted in time and in our hearts. The poems we've seen in these three editions of the prize tell, each in their own way, our history, make it possible for the private wells in each of a collective that makes us feel less alone. Belonging to a community that is so because it rests on the foundation that our forefathers have built and our hearts are helping to make them stay strong. Our goal has been and will continue to be to celebrate our roots and give a voice to local culture and space, searching for talent that give prestige to our country. In a world that is moving towards globalization, the rediscovery and the exaltation of forms of expression do not want to be a local firm to progress but the approval. The certainty that if everyone shares its roots with others and put on the table that best represents it does nothing but accept the other in the best possible way. The difference that unites them. Our joining. Our greatest satisfaction in having been educated in the local community but also nationwide, with gradual interest from year to year, enthusiasm and desire to participate, with poems that touch the chords of feeling intimate or private matters civil and political rights. We owe to achieve this award, the municipality of Petrosino who has offered his patronage and financial support, the Sicilian Region and particularly the Regional Cultural Heritage and Environmental and Public Education. Last but not least, all those who gave life to this book that will give life to each of you who will read it, because the words engraved on a sheet will not make us forget that the future is better if you do not forget where we came from. now traditional annual event returns this Administration to promote and enhance creativity and art in its biggest and best sense: poetry. Big names are not hosting, host creative art loads of talent, so often we host authors who are shouting and no one hears ... no one listens!. To them we offer our most sincere welcome with the hope that our modest contribution from this small stone thrown into the sea of poetry will come a great wave of enthusiasm and courage, which leads to emerge and that poetry can be a further step in the management of culture. That kind of culture that expresses simple sentiments, white, like the hearts of their competitors. As everyone has noted, today the art is scarcely considered. The new generations of artists have no dialogue, are not encouraging, are not constructive controversy, then they are forced, for lack of "living space" to move beyond the barricade to protest and often do not know whether their art was deserving of greater and greater success. For these reasons and others for whom it would take too long to process, we wanted to give our guests this collection that not only wants to honor all the participants, but want to give glory and dignity, as was mentioned earlier, at home as a means of communication , as the art of talking to people, as the art of making the impossible possible. The collection of poems, dedicated to the competition entitled to Pasquale Benigno, in particular exudes charm, it is indicative of the diverse culture that every author has covered in his work. In the hope that this collection of poems can be a stimulus to the younger generation appreciate the participants and we hope that the prize Pasquale Benigno can become a national event for those of poetry make it a reason to live. The Town Council will always be close and united with the artists who choose Petrosino as "free zone" to confront and will always be available to promote the arts in its many manifestations.
